Relics, the bodies of saints, particles of their bodies, or articles of clothing, vestments, and the like which they used during their lifetimes & which the Church venerates because of the position of the person in sancity & virture & because these may bring a person to the imitation of the saint; often miracles are worked by the grace & favor of God through a relic & through the intercession of the saint whose relic is so used. Relics are commonly divided as follows; First-class relics are parts of the actual body of the saint. Second-class relics are bits of the clothing & other articles used by the saint in life. Third-class relics are objects that have been touched to the body or tomb of the saint. Fourth-class relics are objects that have been touched to a second-class relic.
